Who is this for?
Knitters who can knit, purl, cast-on, and cast-off
Knitters who have no experience knitting any kind of Aran pattern, or who have never used a cable needle (a third needle while knitting)
What will you learn?
How to use a cable needle
Creating cables with 4 and 6 stitches
Reading a cable pattern
What else?
We will also chat about the tradition of Aran knitting here in Ireland and around the world, its impact on fashion, and something of the history of Aran knitting in the area.
We will use locally sourced Aran wool which will be provided as well as a cable needle. Participants will need to bring their own size 4.5mm knitting needles of choice – straight or circular are suitable.
At the end of the class you will have the opportunity to join another Aran class in the afternoon, using the skills and techniques taught in this cable knitting class
Public transport: the 51 bus (Cork/Galway) stops right in front of the Irish Fibre Crafters studio just about every hour, daily. Ardrahan train station (with occasional times) is a 5 minute drive from the studio, but it is a road with no good verge, so please let us bring you from/to the station rather than attempt the walk.
Driving? Irish Fibre Crafters is just 5 minutes off of the Ardrahan exi
