NEW BEGINNINGS

When the doors opened for business again on 20 May, it did seem like a new beginning. Some things had changed, but most had remained the same. It was delightful to have the doors open and be able to greet friends and customers whom I had not seen in many months.

While the studio and shop were closed, I took on some new suppliers, including Hanly Woolen Mills, Gaywool Dyes, and lots of crochet hooks, knitting needles, and notions.

During this last lockdown I worked with the European Wool Exchange (EWE) in producing the first European Wool Day. There are so many things happening with them and you can read all about them on https://www.ewe.network/

Myself, Karen O’Neill, Sandra Marschall and Dempna Lawless, with help from Susan Wilde, produced a video explaining what we do with wool and why we do it. It was part of our contribution for European Wool Day on 9 April. Here is the link if you would like to have a look and listen: https://youtu.be/Gk9c1eL1fSA

I am happy to say that the crafters whom I represent are still actively producing their beautiful products crafted from Irish wool and alpaca. Several of them will be teaching their crafts in workshops and classes throughout the year, including wet felting a wool basket, natural dyeing, freeform crochet, and hand spinning. You can see the current schedule here: https://www.irishfibrecrafters.com/workshops-at-irish-fibre-crafters

I just had the first “Begin to Spin” class and it was so good to be back to sharing and teaching others the things I love to do with wool. There will be others scheduled soon and throughout the remainder of the year.

There will continue to be lots of activity creativity and fun this year. If you live nearby, please stop in any Thursday, Friday, or Saturday to say hello. And if you are on a “staycation” make this a destination this summer. I love sharing and showing what we can do with Irish wool and alpaca. And of course, Dolly and Molly will be at the door to greet you.
